Under terrestrial sedimentation condition, the most komplete evidence of Quaternary climatic shifts is provided by mid-European loess series, consisting of fossil soils, colluvial horizons and loess accumulations. These occur in regular cyclic sequences, each corresponding to one interglacial-glacial cycle. The loess cycles can be correlated with climatic phases recorded in deap-sea and glacier ice cores.
