Ribozom – továrna na proteiny
Ribosome – proteinfactory by Marian Novotný.
The Nobel price in Chemistry was in 2009 awarded to three structural biologists who significantly contributed to the understanding of translation of information carried by RNA to proteins. Their revolutionary insights came from 3D structures of ribosomes. Ada Yonath was the first person to acquire well-diffracting ribosome crystals, Thomas Steitz solved ribosome‘s phase problem and identified the region of the ribosome responsible for the formation of peptide bond. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan described how is codon correctly recognized by anticodon through a „molecular ruler“ in small ribosomal subunit. Their 3D structures were also used in designing new antibiotics.
